Butch Walker
Web Design
I’m a big fan of Butch Walker and his tunes, and it got me thinking. So many musician’s websites are often crude, thrown together, and many times lack solid hierarchy and type systems. So, I decided I’d take advantage of the forced downtime with the Coronavirus and redesign a few pages of his website after evaluating the needs of the core audience and cleaning up the usability.
I took into consideration the needs of Butch and his management team. By focusing on the overlap in the needs of the audience and the artist, I was able to redesign pages that prioritized the overlapping goals. Those goals are to promote and sell records, promote events and sell tickets, keep the fans informed about upcoming releases, available merch, and event dates. I also wanted to make it easy for users to stream music and video, which would support the aforementioned goals with site traffic and more plays.
I created a typographic hierarchy using a modular scale while designing and aligning elements to an 8pt grid system. This helped me to achieve a more cohesive and rhythmic flow to the pages and allowed for consistent spacing.
